Our Teaching Style
We use a highly energetic approach that is challenging and fun. We individualize our feedback to compliment the student’s personality and encourage them to excel by focusing on parent guided quality time at the piano. Our vision is to help all our students love classical music and to achieve the highest standards in their chosen musical pursuits so that one day they can go on and make their own great music.
About Jake McHugh
Jake McHugh is the founder and head teacher of Pinnacle Music House. He is a Songwriter and Musician based in Richmond, Virginia. From 2017-2021 he studied music and graduated Cum Laude from Shenandoah Conservatory with a degree in classical performance.
Jake McHugh focused on double bass performance in university and also studied piano, songwriting, composition, and pedagogy both privately and at university.
Having performed for over 10 years, he has been seen playing in venues like The Omni Homestead Resort, Hynes Convention Center (Berklee), and The Beacon Theatre. In December 2016, he performed for a private event hosted by the governor in the Virginia Executive Mansion. He is also a member of the Northern Neck Orchestra double bass section.
He has written over 100 original songs and on social media, Jake McHugh’s music has seen a receptive and growing audience, gathering over 15,000 views on Facebook and YouTube since 2020.
Now, Jake McHugh runs a large teaching studio of over 35 students and primarily teaches piano, priding himself on being an energetic and fun teacher that challenges students to be their best.
In his personal time, Jake McHugh is an active member of Grace Bible Church and works on his own musical compositions.
About Ben Taylor
Ben Taylor is a pianist and bassist. He pursued biblical studies and studied music at Liberty University.
Ben Taylor focused on piano during his time at Liberty and specializes in musical theatre, Christian music, and jazz music.
In his personal time, Ben Taylor is an active member of Kingsway Community Church and is heavily involved in CharacterWorks, a Christian theatre ministry.

Our free trial lesson is for you to assess whether we’re a good match. We’re looking for students who are able to listen well during a lesson and parents that are willing to invest into their child’s success at home. Our lessons will be a good fit for you if you want to take music seriously.

Students should practice 5-6 days a week. Younger students benefit from a parent’s help. Your teacher will help guide you through what a practice session should look like and let you know when to increase practice time.

Each student learns at their own pace, but students that have support at home usually progress the fastest. We strive to work at a fast pace. Most of our students can begin entertaining family & friends within 6 months of lessons.
